Tawfik’s practice is informed by his ongoing research into locating potentialities through ecological and cosmological perspectives. Recently, he coined the term "eco-cosmic" as an interchangeable lens through which he examines the past and uncovers new methods of understanding it. His research spans over 8 years, with a particular focus on the construction of The Great Man-Made River and the political embodiment of natural resources.

Alongside his ongoing research, Tawfik also runs a research lab titled Tender Xchange. Started during a residency at Gasworks in 2020, TX is a nomadic research lab that leads with feeling, using intuitive methods of observation to rebuild understanding. Working exclusively collectively, we aim to create networks and frameworks for dynamic, ever-changing research.

Tender Xchange has presented itself across 5 installments in London, engaging participants in the collaborative formulation of visual, sonic, and written maps to uncover the ultimate potential of various subject matters.
